The sun is setting over the ocean's edge and I glimpsed a mist of salty air billowing up over the coast. With mist fogging up over the edge, the internal loneliness grows deeper within. Feeling alienated, alone, and isolated by the societal demands of justice, I feel trapped within. My heart screams out for breath of fresh air, and outward, I must remain, a smile within, and outwardly, joyfully engaged.
Somewhat refreshing, ultimately horrifying, is the step of faith that is required for all who passionately desire to experience Christ on the edge of the raw authenticity of following Him. There was, and still today, is, nothing stating that following Christ to the edge was going to be easy, nor simple, nor a stroll down the lane of comfomity. Tragically, the majority of our Christ following culture embraces simplicity, comfort, and luxury as if it were owed to them, while three quarters of our global population lives under the poverty line. Marginalized life to the majority is seen as far out of reach for the small percentage that sip their high call drinks at the country club.
My heart breaks when I see them enjoying their drink, not because of the joy of their experience, but at the lack of wisdom they gather from the realization that others around them don't have access to education, medicine, food, water, and shelter. Sex abuse, trafficking, and the slavery of young women and boys into lifestyles becomes the horrific reality for three quarters of our global population, while the local tourists settle in for a late night cruise along the murky waters of the most expensive meal, reaching over an easy $1,500 dinner, before returning to rest in the Presidential Suite that costs $ 2,300 USD a night. Have I forgotten to mention that if someone from the marginalized community is suffering from a heart attack, if they do not have the $2.50 USD to get into the hospital to be seen by the ER doctor, he will die of a heart attack on the street, all by himself.
Perspective changes when the color changes and like the seasons of North American snap down hard on winter and freeze off the death. Rich people, who remain clueles to the global reality of their wealth, are the ones that push down on the heads of these precious souls that have no opportunity for hope and certainly not an opportunity for education, medical care, and so they slip away, under the foot of someones Gucci black leathered shoes.
So, the step of faith from nothing, to nothing to the 9th power, is horrifying and alarming. I never want the perceptives of others to do internal, externally, or emotional damage to my heart, when I know that I signed on to be a voice for those who cannot have a voice, and I signed up to follow Christ because I am to speak up for those who cannot speak up for themselves
Why are you not speaking up? Why are you not talking about it ? What do you disfigure your disposable income into a different channel so that it doesn't look so painful when the charity organizations come around to your table.
What about radical giving? What about giving so far beyond what you ever imagined, and through the source of Christ, that great work, of sacrificing becomes a life changing experience. Children come to church, because of a local raffle for a television, and they end up receiving Christ.
Did you enjoy that fine crystal china dish that you slurped your eggs and cheese out of at breakfast ?
In our hood, we don't get that, not even the egg and cheese.
Its time to step up. Speak up for those who have been silenced by margainlized life and dire circumstances that have left them slave to their own circumstances.
The most engaged process in this is that Christ is the one who will decide, and the blessing is that He loves and passionately desires for each of us to follow Him radically. The change of colors in the process will be the determining factor. Life's race is long, yet so short, when the end arrives. What color you are when you went into the race, will not be the same as you leave. You either gain or you lose, and to learn is to gain, and to gain is to win. Bringing joy into the life of a family through eye glasses so that they can read the Bible.
I will make sure that the next time that I sit down next to a passenger across the aisle that paid for his 1st class ticket to Melbourne, Australia, and I just paid coach, I'll share with him that his ticket could have paid an entire wage salary for one of my team members from the NGO for one year, with bonuses.
Its the color, and the change is the result of color being what it is. We decide.
Live a Life Worth Leaving a Legacy.
